Why a Small Chip Can't Wait in Michigan

Michigan's extreme temperature swings hot summer afternoons followed by cold nights, or a blast of defroster heat on a freezing windshield put constant stress on damaged glass. That stress can turn a small, repairable chip into a full crack in a matter of hours. Repairing a chip while it's small is almost always faster and less expensive than waiting.

Is Your Windshield Chip Repairable?

Most chips can be repaired if they're caught early. As a general guide:

  • Chips up to the size of a quarter are typically repairable
  • Cracks up to 12 inches long can often be repaired
  • Damage outside the driver's direct line of sight repairs more predictably
  • Chips that have already spread significantly usually require full windshield replacement

Repair results vary depending on the size, shape, age, and location of the damage our technicians will give you an honest assessment before starting any work, including telling you if replacement is the better option.

How Our Mobile Chip Repair Works

01 - Inspect the Damage

We assess the chip's size, depth, and type to confirm it's repairable.

02 - Clean & Prepare

We remove loose glass fragments and moisture from the damaged area. Proper prep is critical to a durable repair.

03 - Inject Optical Resin

Optical-grade resin is injected under pressure, filling the void and bonding to the surrounding glass.

04 - Cure Under UV Light

UV light cures the resin quickly, hardening it to full strength and making the repair nearly invisible.

05 - Final Polish & Inspection

We polish the repaired area and inspect the result together — the chip is gone, the spread is stopped.

Why Choose a Certified Repair Over a DIY Kit

DIY chip repair kits are available, but auto glass resins are manufactured in different types and viscosities for different kinds of damage. Using the wrong resin can leave a repair that looks fine but doesn't hold up structurally. Since your windshield is a structural safety component of your vehicle, we use professional-grade resin injection equipment and trained technicians to make sure the repair restores real strength, not just appearance.

Chip Repair Questions

Ignoring a windshield chip leaves a chance it will spread into a crack — it's always better to get it repaired promptly.

Place a piece of clear tape over the chip to keep out debris, water, and moisture until a professional can repair it.

Unfortunately, once a chip has been worked on, we're not able to improve it or attempt another repair the resin has already been injected.
